Parochial Church Council

The Annual Parish Meeting

The Annual Parish Meeting takes place before the Annual Parochial Church Meeting, and elects the Churchwardens. This meeting takes place after Parish Communion on a Sunday in late April. This part of the meeting is open to those registered on the Electoral Roll of the Parish, and those who are resident in the parish whose names are on the Register of Local Government Electors.

Churchwardens

The Churchwardens are two parishioners elected at the Annual Parish Meeting who work closely with the Vicar and have the authority of officers of the Parochial Church Council.

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) elects the Parochial Church Council. At the meeting a number of reports are received and the business of the Church is discussed. The meeting provides an opportunity for parishioners to hear and ask questions about the work of St Nicholas. The annual accounts are presented by the Treasurer. Reports are presented by the Vicar (Chairman), Electoral Roll Officer, Churchwardens, and the Hall Committee.

To attend the meeting, you need to be on the Electoral Roll of St Nicholas, Saltdean.

Electoral Roll

The Electoral Roll is an official list of the members of our Church. You need to be on the Electoral Roll to be a member of the Parochial Church Council, and to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting.

Application for enrolment on the Church Electoral Roll

Please return the completed form to the Electoral Roll Officer at the Parish Office.

Parochial Church Council

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is involved in the running of our Church and meets about six times a year. It consists of the Vicar, the Churchwardens and a number of elected members. It forms an elected body that shares responsibility for the Parish of St Nicholas with the Vicar. It provides an opportunity for parishioners to contribute to the running and direction of St Nicholas.

The PCC carries out a mixture of functions – spiritual, legal, financial and missionary. Anything and everything to do with the Church's work - forms of service, building works, etc may be discussed.

Elections for membership of the PCC are held at the Annual Meeting of Parishioners (APCM). Nomination sheets for membership of the PCC are available a few weeks before the APCM.

The PCC is supported by a sub-committee, which deals with the day to day management of the Church Hall. The Hall Committee meets six times a year, and consists of members of the PCC.

The operation and structure of the PCC and its sub-committee is covered by the Church of England Regulations and policies passed at PCC and APCM meetings.

To be a member of the PCC, you need to be over 16 and listed on the Electoral Roll of St Nicholas, Saltdean.
