Baptism

Baptism Service

It is in Baptism that a person is joined to Christ and is born again by water and the Holy Spirit.

This may sound like strange and unfamiliar language, but do not worry, it is what God does for you more than what we can understand with our minds which is key to Baptism.

Baptism or Christening is one of those things that Jesus told us to do. We are made by adoption of children of God and inheritors of the kingdom of heaven when our earthly life is over.

What is the difference between Baptism and a naming ceremony at a Town Hall?

Well precisely for the reasons outlined above. You already named your baby when you registered him/her at birth.

At Baptism the child or adult is addressed by that name and given all the grace and privileges of a child of God. No human being at a naming ceremony can do this.

There are no fees for Baptism, the only requirement is that you live in the Parish of Saltdean.

If you live outside the parish we can still Baptise, but you will need the permission of the Vicar of the Parish where you live.
