Please God let Him stay!

T’was many years ago when Christ was crucified,
When Judas, who betrayed Him, committed suicide.
We’ve heard the story many times, we Christians of the church,
I wonder, had we been there, would we have left Him in the lurch?
If Jesus Christ came back to earth, right now this very day,
Who of us would listen, to what he had to say?

If He’d gone back to Ireland, He’d have found a lot of bother,
Although they all believe in Him, they were murdering each other.
South Africians still mourn the fact that he was crucified,
But would not have let Him in their church, because of apartheid.
If Jesus Christ came back to earth, right now this very day,
Who of us would listen, to what He had to say?

He rode into Jerusalem upon a sea of palm.
It was napalm that was thrown around, in the streets of Vietnam.
In Genesis we read about the world and its creation,
And ever since we’ve sought new ways of self extermination.
If Jesus Christ came back to earth, right now this very day,
Who of us would listen, to what He had to say?

Oh! God who did create the world in seven days, or less,
Please spare another day or two, to save us from this mess.
Our Saviour came; our Saviour went, and few of us did heed Him.
Please help us all to understand how much we really need Him.
If Jesus Christ comes back to earth, again this present day,
Help me to recognise Him; and please God let Him stay!
