The Mothers’ Union in Saltdean hosted a special District Meeting on Saturday 8th October 2011 when the Diocesan President, Mrs Chris Emson, came to tea with 80 members and friends from the District ranging from a few weeks to 90 years in age.

We met first in church where Chris gave a most interesting and entertaining account of her recent visit to our Diocesan M.U. Links in Kenya.

All MU dioceses in UK are linked with others in different parts of the world and they support each other by prayer, correspondence and occasional visits which are very special and do much to boost the poorer members in many parts of the world. Our Diocese of Chichester is linked with Kimberley and Kuruman in Southern Africa, Okrika and Owo and the Niger Delta in Nigeria, NYAHURURU in Kenya and RENK in the Sudan. Chris particularly visited the new diocese of KERITHO which had recently been formed from part of Nyahururu and had brought back some beautiful samples of materials for us to admire. She also told us about our link in Renk where we are committed to pay the wages for their Mothers’ Union Worker.

This was followed by a very special “Posh Tea Party” prepared by Saltdean Branch members in the beautifully decorated Church Hall. We enjoyed a wonderful assortment of tea-time treats, savoury tartlets, open face sandwiches, wraps and rolls; followed by delicious sweets and two large iced cakes decorated in the MU colours of blue and white. The cream cakes were made with low fat cheese and some were suitable for diabetics so, not only were we treated to many old favourite delicacies but they were healthy too!

£162 was raised for MU funds and a good time was had by all.

Chris complimented the branch and said that she had had a lovely time.

With thanks to Joyce for the article and photographs
